Newsmaker: Support the Philippines’ Ocean Month and the World Ocean Day

Arnel Gabutero reached the pawikan sanctuary in Davao last Thursday after a 3-day solo kayaking expedition. And he has brought our attention to the Philippines’ 10th annual celebration of Ocean Month.

Show your support and check with government offices and environmental NGOs. Ask them about Ocean Month activities that you can join. There’s nothing like having a fun day out on the beach for a good cause. You can also contact Davao City Water District and the Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation for more details about projects in Cebu and Davao.

Ocean Month is definitely a good lead-up to the celebration of World Ocean Day(WOD) on June 8th. This year’s WOD theme is “Helping our climate - Helping our ocean.”

Life is Fun: International Firefighters’ Day

Today we honor our valiant firefighters as we celebrate International Firefighters’ Day. Every first Sunday of May, fire sirens are sounded off at noon for 30 seconds, followed by ‘a minute’s silence in memory of, and respect for, all firefighters who have been lost in the line of duty or passed on before us.’ Here’s a funny story about a fireman and his bestfriend:

A fireman and his best friend died and they both went to heaven. St Peter gave them their wings with the warning that as soon as they have a bad thought, their wings would fall off.

Well, everything went well for some time until one day, they saw a very beautiful angel.

As the fireman turned to watch her pass, his wings fell off. He looked at his bestfriend’s wings and he still had them.

And then the fireman bent over to pick his wings up. That’s when his bestfriend’s wings fell off.
