Newsmaker: Personal Computers, Now Sold Legally in Cuba
Last Friday, personal computers were sold legally for the first time in Cuba. And people flocked to the first authorized computer shop to see what a computer looks like. Many of them could only afford to window shop, but there were some lucky ones who had the money to buy the Windows-powered “QTECH PC” - A tower-style computer that’s assembled in Cuba with Chinese parts. It comes at a dear price of about $780 and its specs include an Intel processor, 512MB RAM, 80 GB storage space, a CRT monitor and a DVD drive. (It can be recalled that DVD players and cellphones were only legalized in Cuba last month.)
Yes, the times are changing for the citizens of Communist Cuba, thanks to the progressive policies being put in place by newly-installed President Raul Castro, brother of former strongman Fidel Castro. And who knows? Maybe in the coming months, unrestricted internet access will also become available to the public.

I’ve heard the prices are still shooting up to kingdom come. Cubans say it’s like they were being played around, or fooled.
Others, though, say that it is an indication of the gradual change in Cuba.

Fidel is not happy about biofuels. Cuba, like Mexico (and the Philippines) depends on U.S. of A. for corn.

It is good that the Cuban government is loosening its hold on its people. Allowing the sell of computers is a good sign…and I hope that soon the government of Cube understand the true meaning of communism that it espouses — that is empowerment to the proletariats, empowermwnt to the masses.
