Newsmaker: Harrison Ford’s Save the Rainforest Campaign

I’m sure you’ve seen this forest conservation ad featuring Harrison Ford, released last May 22, but it’s good to watch it again (and again).  The ad was made by Conservation International, a US-based nonprofit organization founded in 1987 that aims to promote conservation in the jungles, deserts and oceans. Their ongoing project called “Protect an Acre” asks for a $15 donation to support their scientists and teams in tropical rainforests in Madagascar, Indonesia, Brazil, Colombia and the Philippines.

Let’s keep in mind that tropical rainforests can only be found on about 6% of the Earth’s surface and yet over half of the world’s plants and animal species live in them.  Look at the map below and appreciate how proud we should be that the Philippines is part of this 6%. Bottom line: If they’re concerned over there, we should be more concerned in our own country.

Quote of the Day: King George V

“Is it possible that my people live in such awful conditions? I tell you, Mr Wheatley, that if I had to live in conditions like that I would be a revolutionary myself.”King George V of the United Kingdom ( June 3, 1865 - Jan 20, 1936)

Life is Fun: Zookeeper Joke

One day a zookeeper saw a very smart orangutan reading two books — the Bible and Darwin’s Origin of Species. In surprise he asked the ape, “Why are you reading both those books”?

“Well,” said the orangutan, “I just wanted to know if I’m my brother’s keeper or my keeper’s brother.”

The Power of the Word

May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us;
establish the work of our hands for us—
yes, establish the work of our hands. - Psalm 90:17
